Dewinterizing Your Motorized RV

Supplies

  • Air compressor
  • Air filters
  • Battery charger
  • Damp sponge
  • Flashlight
  • Garden hose
  • Household bleach
  • Latex gloves
  • Potable water
  • Propane tanks
  • Rag
  • Safety glasses
  • Timer
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Wash and wax cleaner
  • Waterproof sealant

Steps

  • Wash and wax RV.
  • Check for cracks.
  • Inspect seams and seals.
  • Clean awning.
  • Check for leaks.
  • Inspect generator.
  • Inspect and charge batteries.
  • Top off water levels with distilled water.
  • Check tire pressure and look for cracks.
  • Air out vehicle.
  • Look for damage, including discoloration.
  • Check for mold by opening fridge and cabinets.
  • Change air and water filters.
  • Rinse window screens.
  • Clean and test appliances.
  • Inspect outside access covers.
  • Remove RV antifreeze.
  • Sanitize water system.
  • Look for cracks in drain tap.
  • Dump black and gray tanks at approved facility.
  • Check propane system for cracked seals and hoses.
  • Visit repair facility if due for the gas pressure operating test.
  • Check engine oil and other fluids.
  • Test headlights and other lights.
  • Drive around block. Test turn signals, steering and brakes.
  • Inspect carbon monoxide detector, smoke alarm, LP gas leak detector and fire extinguishers.
