Class C motorhomes are a great choice for both weekend warriors and full-time travelers, thanks to the variety of floor plans and features available. They range in length from 22 feet up to 40 feet. For those looking for a nimble touring experience, finding a Class C under 30 feet provides a balance of interior space without a burdensome exterior length.

Important Features to Look for in Class Cs Under 30 Feet

When looking for the right Class C, consider these items:

Platform

Most Class Cs under 30 feet are built around the chassis of a Ford, Chevrolet, or Mercedes-Benz van. When selecting a platform, consider the full driving experience. This includes safety, power, and comfort, as well as the type of fuel, cost of maintenance, repair facility locations, and purchase price.

Off-Grid Features

Across the industry, RV manufacturers have worked to appeal to boondockers by providing rigs with solar power, water filtration, larger holding tanks, and more. Class Cs vary widely in whether they come outfitted with these features or whether you can add them as factory options.

Floor Plan

A 30-foot-or-less Class C can come in a variety of floor plans. Some feature a private bedroom, while others have a bed open to the living area. Murphy beds are a popular option in shorter rigs since they combine seating and sleeping space. Many short Class Cs have a dinette and a couch, while others just have one or the other. You’ll also want to consider whether you wish to have slide-outs—they expand the living space but do require maintenance.

Cab-Over Bunk Configurations

One defining feature of Class C motorhomes is the cab-over bunk. While this comes standard, you may also find the option to replace it with an entertainment center or extra storage if you don’t plan to utilize the bed.

Rear Seating While Traveling

Some Class Cs have seat belts and car seat tethers for rear seating, while others do not. This style of RV isn’t required to follow traditional seat belt laws beyond the cab, so safety equipment for rear seating varies. Look for equipment directly mounted to the frame for the best protection.
