Zion National Park Records Another Record-High Year
In the last 10 years, Zion National Park recorded six record-breaking seasons. The park recently released visitor numbers from 2022, stating more than 4.6 million people came to the park last year, its second-busiest year on record. Zion also had more than 5 million shuttle boardings in 2022, nearly 82,000 visitors over Memorial Day Weekend, and park restrooms used close to 2,000 miles of toilet paper—nearly enough to reach Washington, D.C. from the park. If you plan on visiting the popular park this year, park officials suggest to plan ahead (and have a backup plan), check the forecast before your arrival, and bring plenty of water and food on hikes and other excursions.

The Biden-Harris administration announced that more than $21 million in grants will be given to the National Scenic Byways Program to fund 33 projects. As part of the Investing in America agenda, the grants will be used to improve roadways, increase accessibility, and support local businesses along scenic byway routes in 29 states. The goal is to provide a safer, more enjoyable experience for those traveling on these historic roadways. California, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin are a few of the states receiving funding. Of the projects receiving grant money, five grants were awarded to Tribal applicants.

Three of Newmar’s luxury motorhome lines will receive upgraded features and new floor plan options beginning in 2024. The RV manufacturer recently announced changes to its Ventana Class A, Superstar Class C, and London Aire Class A motorhome models. The upgrades range from bedding options and layout changes to stackable washer and dryer units and slide-out improvements. The Ventana and Superstar luxury motorhomes currently cost more than $400,000, with the London Aire retailing at just less than $900,000.

The National Park Service (NPS) is hoping to alleviate long entrance waits by implementing a timed-entry system, similar to other popular parks across the U.S. At the park’s Nisqually and White River entrances, visitors can wait more than an hour to enter, with lines stretching for miles on busy days. Officials believe managing the park entry pace will improve traffic flow and help locals who need to access their homes and businesses throughout the day.

Michigan state parks received $250 million in COVID-19 relief funding, meaning several parks will undergo improvements beginning this year. While these projects will improve visitor experiences throughout the state, some parks will be temporarily closed for upgrades.
