This State Is Banning the Sale of New, Portable Gas-Powered Generators

California ruled that new, portable gas-powered generators can no longer be sold in the state starting in 2028, and that efforts must be made by 2024 to strongly reduce emissions in new products on the market. Use of older generators and the sale of used generators manufactured prior to regulation dates will not be impacted. The state hopes to improve air quality and reduce pollution by eliminating new gas-powered generators from production. Arguments were made by RV industry representatives to consider RV generators as fixed instead of portable or to extend the compliance period to 2035, when reasonable alternatives would be more realistic.

Will This VW Electric Camper Come to the U.S.?

Volkswagen’s new ID.California electric campervan has been revealed, with production possibly beginning later this decade. Based on its name, this rig will follow the ID.BUZZ electric microbus family—bringing electric power to VW’s campervan lineup. The ID.California is expected to have a 300-mile range after charging thanks to its 110 kilowatt hour battery pack. Despite naming the model for a U.S. state, VW hasn’t sold campervans in the U.S. market in almost 20 years, leaving many wondering whether the ID.California will make it stateside.

Names of Some Federal Lands Are Changing

Last month, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland established a process for reviewing and replacing names on federal lands with derogatory language. Though it’s utilized in more than 650 federal land unit names, the word “squaw” is an ethnic and sexist term, usually aimed at Indigenous women. New committees will propose replacement names and help clear the backlog of renaming requests for other locations with offensive wording.
