July 4th Travel Expected to Set Records

This Independence Day, U.S. travelers are expected to celebrate with the freedom to travel again as the COVID-19 pandemic wanes. AAA Newsroom reports that travel volume is expected to be 40 percent higher than in 2020, as more than 47 million travelers head out for July 4th getaways. Over 91 percent of travel will occur in cars, making this the busiest July 4th travel volume on roadways on record and the second-highest for overall travel volume (including all modes of transportation). 10 New National Recreation Trails to Enjoy

The National Park Service celebrated National Trails Day last month by designating 10 new national recreation trails. These 160 miles of pathways can be found in eight different states, including Alabama, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland stated, “… we need recreational resources now more than ever to strengthen physical, social and mental health across our country.” The new trails include routes for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and more. New designations range from a 78-mile former railroad to an urban greenway.

Camper vans are having a moment, as campers want the ease of car travel combined with the creature comforts of RVs. Thor’s new Rize and Scope Class B vans are built on the RAM Promaster 1500XT platform, coming in at under 18 feet in length. Both are available with two floorplans, one featuring a wet bath and another offering more kitchen space instead. The new rigs come with a 190-watt solar panel (with a power controller), and the option to upgrade to a heartier lithium battery for off-grid adventures. Another intriguing option is the pop-top sleeping area, which incorporates a tent bed into the roof.
